I just bought my 1st Z car (a 1995 5-speed NA coupe with 65k miles) and I'm going through it, doing all the maintenance and checking everything. I especially liked your articles on fuel leaks and erratic idle. I bought the factory service manual but it is nearly worthless (and even contains some errors).

Do you mind answering a question? The owners manual, service manual, and mechanics at my local Nissan dealer all say that I should replace the timing belt at 105k miles (60k for the TT). The mechanics say that Nissan made a small manufacturing change to the belt in mid-1995, and that improvement, along with years of experience on belt life, led Nissan to increase the recommended replacement mileage for the belt. The mechanics said that if my owners manual says I can go 105k miles, then it's safe to do so. Do you agree?

Nice site, cute kids... I have a 1993 TT and loved Europe when I was with the US Army. Total of 7 years. It's hot in Central Texas and the Grass Hoppers fill up the intakes so I haven't driven the 300 much lately. This is my 3rd Z and first TT no comparison to the others. I am 52 and have collected many cars and the 300, 1990 to 1996 is a one of a kind. My latest is the new 2002 Q45 and the voice computer system is a ball, I have always loved high tech cars. PS the rear end is from the 300ZX.

sportbilen. Idag sitter det en trimsats som skall
ge ca: 350Hk enligt papper men varken bromsar
eller väghållning är förbättrad. Jag skulle gärna
vilja komma över 400Hk-strecket med ruskigt bra
väghållning samt en egen styling på bilen.

Your web sight has been very helpful, very well done. I have a structural engineering degree, but on my own time I am learning visual basic to design software programs for the structural design industry. I have owned my 92 300ZX now for 1-1/2yrs. I have fixed or replaced just about everything but the block and head. Now its time to tackle that job. I love the car, always wanted one ever since the 90's came out. Everyone is telling me to get rid of it due to the problems I've experienced with it. What they don't understand is that I didn't buy this car for the short round, I plan on keeping it for a very long time, the technology put into this car is one by itself. In 1990 this car was the pioneer, the leader of sports cars of today. Everytime I work on the Z I gain a better understanding of that technology and that makes it all worth wild. Plus, there is this strong underlining friendship between Z owners that's pretty awesome. Thanks again for your time in designing this web sight.

Thanks for your articles. I used your IAA instuctions to disassemble and clean mine. It helped. Interestingly, I get a more stable idle with the AAC disconnected from the CPU. Also I got additional idle improvement from using the non-extended tip plug PFR7B-11. Previously I had been using the PFR6B-11B and was having some detonation when at about 14psi. That was solved by the plug change. Like yourself most people though I would have problems with this cold plug. I have a TT with JWT CPU, intake, exhaust and an ACV-R. But my plugs are the correct whitish color when I take them out.

Also you have the compression specs listed for a NA engine. The TT is max 171psi, min 128psi with the same 14 psi maximum difference

I will read anything else you write.

Congratulations on getting your engine out and back into your car.

I liked you site, very nice pictures of Norway. I currently live in the US but have been to Europe this past Jully, I went to Spain for one month. I visited Mallorca (fun!), Madrid, Segovia, Cordoba and Granada. I really loved it and I plan to visit other european countries. I wish I could bring my 93ztt to drive on the beutifull roads down there.

I think your tech pages are great.

You open up the iaa valve where nobody mentioned on the web, personally I think the iaa deserve some preventive maintenance or lubrication.

Viking,
For those of us who walk the fine line between "taking our cars to the dealer and forgetting about it" and "not trusting our stupid price-gouging dealer mechanic," sites like yours are a life saver. I am using your info on finding fuel leaks and will check the interconnect hose. If you have any other suggestions maybe you can email me. Someone posted the gas smell might just be a bad gas cap. What do you think of this?

Your pics of the "air regulator" was very good, however, it doesn't say how or where the regulator is located and how to take it off the car.
My car idle rough (and low 1000K rpm)during cold startups. I suspect the regulator not opening.

Great article on curing erratic idle. The heading has part1 is their a part 2? I have had my convertible to the dealer twice for a high idle and it still reads over 1K RPM's. Now they tell me that the computer is reading the the water tempeture as 177 degrees when it should be higher. Could the idle and wrong water tempeture be related? Regards Larry

Thanks for the Tech Articles. I am currently having an idle problem and will check the sensors in you article.
If you have any ideas on my problem, please yell out :)

I just finished replacing my faulty fuel injectors (one bad, two leaking). I also replaced
All of the injector connectors, PCV’s, fuel lines and every vacuum hose I could find. Here is my current problem.

When I start the car it idles fine (hot or cold start). If I rev the engine and slowly back down on the gas, it idles fine (hot or cold). However, If I rev the engine (about 4K) and SNAP the throttle shut the idle returns to about 500 rpm and it will run REAL ROUGH and miss like a bitch until I give it just a little gas (just a real light touch of the throttle), then the rpm will come back up to about 750 and it will idle just fine. What could be the cause? Computer codes returned are just 55. I have triple checked every vacuum line and at idle (about 700 rpm) I have about –20 on my pod mount boost gauge
